Only seven videos still have a chance to win the $10,000 grand prize and "Reading Light" which was submitted by YouTube member "Kinderholm" won't be a part of it!
Smartpower, the national non-profit marketing organization that is creating a voluntary market for clean energy, is continuing the "Countdown to Number One" of our Top Ten Finalists in the "SmartPower & YouTube Clean Energy Ad Challenge." SmartPower has selected the winning video and will pay the creator $10,000.00 for their inspired efforts.
Although it was a strong ad, the video "Reading Light" is being removed today from our list of finalists. Each day up until June18th, SmartPower is removing a particular video in the Countdown to Number One! Though not chosen as the winner, that video was another very strong submission.
"Whoever produced this video clearly understands film and clearly understands our clean energy message," said Brian F. Keane, President of SmartPower. "It struck us that this ad could conceivably play out into a series of ads. We saw this as almost mini soap opera," said Keane.
The video submitted was very cleverly created and it can be summarized as a young man frantically chasing the setting sun in order to continue to read.When he reaches the beach at sunset he finds another disappointed reader standing in the dark. We're told in the ad that neither of the two knows about clean energy. But the final character, resting at home by her reading lamp, does.
